Today my friends’ son died. He was 8 years old. He was battling with cancer.
He had a rare small round cell tumour in the leg. Sadly, he successfully went through surgery , chemo and radiation. He welcomed the steel leg after amputation.. how strong & brave he must have been after loosing his legs at this age. And how strong is his mamma !
They were happy, he did not relapse. They were having a vacation together after long battle of months of therapy. Suddenly he developed a fever, not going away. Doctors said he has got a secondary tumor from his chemo, an aggressive blood cancer. And then in few days, he had a cerebral metastasis and gone ! When the call came, I could not help but cry in the open road.
Being a doctor, death is not new to me, not even the deaths of small kids from cancer. But it never makes you ready for the next.Every time I realise how far we are from knowing . How far we are from giving a second chance to people who came to us with utmost trust, who has nowhere else to go. We need so much more funds for research, so many resources. Still in this time, humankind is having war, crime, violence, killings… I cannot believe how incredibly stupid is that.!
We need to channel our energy to find hope, find resources to build that hope, find barrier free healthcare to all. Find better chances. Find second third or fourth chances ..
We owe this to our next generation..
So true about the need for good health care and finding a cancer cure or better treatment! I’m sorry to hear about your friend and her son. What a way to begin the new year.

You are so right. I just lost my mom to cancer a month ago. She was 93, so I guess it wasn’t unexpected, but I saw first hand how it quickly took over her body. I’m sorry your loss. Maggie

Thanks Maggie. It doesn’t matter how old, she was your mom. She is always special 💗. I just wish we get more and more funding towards the research instead of weapons 😕

Very sad. If only we could spend as much on health and research as is spent on war!

Really, it still keeps me in shock that in this century we have war when our very own existence may be in crisis!

It doesn’t say much for human intelligence, does it?

So sorry for your loss. Like you, I wonder at our misplaced priorities. Seem most want to tear down, rather than build up. Allan

Thanks Allan for sharing your thoughts. I also think people are quickly forgetting values in the world of Instagram, X, threads… I never felt connected in these pages with people, neither reflected a good thought like I do here. Everyone is busy scrolling. So thanks for sharing..
