Ludwigsburg Blühendes Barock, Germany..

“The Blooming Baroque Ludwigsburg is the oldest and most beautiful permanent garden show. With its extensive parks and colorful flowers, the Blooming Baroque draws more than 500,000 visitors, large and small, from all over the world every year”.

-Truly said in the website for visitors, Ludswigsburg is one of the most beautiful baroque place I have seen in Europe. Our trip to the garden palace has a nice prologue. My sister used to live in Stuttgart few years back and she visited here. She was overwhelmed by the Märchengarten (fairy tale garden), as we grew up reading many fairy tales or our mom used to read it to us. She used to send us photos of this place and write about the garden. Now while this time I was taking my mom to Europe for the first time, my sister was insistent, I should take her to this palace.

We had only a full day in Stuttgart and next day early morning had to be back in Strasbourg. We took an S-bahn to Ludwigsburg on that day. If you take a 3-4 zone day pass for 17€, 5 people can travel unlimited whole day to all 4 zones. So, that’s what we took. You can also use local buses on the same ticket in Ludwigsburg, one of which took us to  the front of the palace. Now the entry tickets can be for only the garden, garden+ one museum, garden+palace guided tour and all museums etc. I took for all and we started from the front end garden. While I will walk you through the museums and palace tour in a different post, here I am giving you a visual of just the garden.

 

 

The garden of Blühendes Barock is truly magnificent displays of blooms in themed plantings in the 30-hectare of castle land. A well manicured garden, it is appropriately called “Versailles of Swabia”. Today’s garden was founded in 1954 and it was arranged in a Baroque style for its 250th birthday. It contains small themed gardens, most notably the Sardinian and two Japanese gardens and the Fairy tale garden (Märchengarten) in the east that contains a folly and depictions of some prominent fairy tales.

 

We saw the tales of Hansel and Gretel, Little red riding hood, Rapunzel, Pinocchio, Golden goose , sleeping beauty, Rumpelstiltskin and several others. Even the story of Sindbad the sailor and story of Aladin are added. It is like going back to childhood.. though I still read fairy tales 😛

Many parents have brought the children to this fairy tale garden and their joy knew no bound seeing and listening the fairy tales in motion ..

  

After seeing the front garden and fairy tale garden, we took some rest in one of the many wooden chairs. Then I went for the palace tour, while my mom spent the day in the outside exploring the other parts of the garden.
