This year has not been easy for many of us.. I am no exception! People lost their jobs, faced emotional stress, pandemic, political unrest and loss of normal lifestyle. Mask is new normal in many places, no social gathering , we missed friends and families. Many regard this year as the worst of their lives. I, too had undergone exceptional hardship having moved to a new country at the onset of Wuhan virus pandemic while 6months pregnant, my husband stuck in another country and my family in a third ! It has been difficult struggling with all the bureaucracy and then delivering my daughter prematurely and alone in a foreign land. But as Ellie is born this year and she is such a joy, I can’t say it is the worst year of my life, in fact one of the best. So, I tried to focus on positive things this year, I got my PhD candidacy in Immunology as I wanted, my husband finished his long pending master’s and finally could move to me, he got a job offer and we made some new friends. Sitting at home in the last weekend of the year, I want to thank my mom ,my daughter and my readers in particular as I am grateful to have you guys around my life.. So, season’s greetings and I hope and wish 2021 will bring everyone peace, health and success.. Stay safe , healthy and happy .. Happy new year 2021 🙂
This year like all , our travel have been extremely limited. Last week of the year, I thought let us use my semester card to travel Aachen ,the spa city of Germany in its westernmost border. With this card I can travel the whole state and in the weekend also take my family. We did not have much in mind except for seeing the church area which is still the main attraction of the city and Christmas lights, as of course everything would be closed. One of the oldest cathedrals in EU, it was constructed by order of Emperor Chalrlemagne , who was buried there in 814. From 936 to 1531, the Palatine chapel saw the coronation of thirty-one king and twelve queens. I like the markt and shopping areas and wish to go back in future.
After coming back home, we did not want to cook and thought of ordering something new .. So we ordered Japanese . The Ebi Tempura inside out roll was really nice and the teppanyaki prawn was also good. Next day , I tried a recipe from YouTube of roasted duck in orange sauce. Now few days remaining of the holiday, I would love to spend with Ellie, paint and read some books..

Always good to look on the bright side, for sure. These days, we just need to look a bit harder, but the bright side is still there. All the best in 2021. Allan

Love this post. 2020 has not been all bad for me either. My husband is a musician and works overseas the majority of the year. He has been home since March when we finally managed to fly home together from Cuba. Won’t happen again for a while once things get going again.

Wow, so many beautiful photos. I would love to visit Germany during the festive season and I would love to visit Christmas markets and brows through the stalls that sell traditional German delicatessen such as hot and sticky sweet sweet roasted almonds, and my favourite ‘Lebkuchen’ hearts (gingerbread hearts). Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Aiva xxx 🙂

Thank you so much for reading. Unfortunately this year, there is no christmas market.. Also all shops are closed due to lockdown, only to open on 10th January next year.. I hope you can come next year when we are through corona

I love your photos – especially the ones of the bronze statues. They are really a good way to lift the spirit. As is taking time for a walk. Wishing you and your family a kinder, gentler 2021.
