Malmö was a stop over in our Copenhagen trip. We got same SJ train fare from Kiruna to Stockholm and Kiruna to Malmö, so decided to take the later. It was Christmas eve and we reached pretty late. It was already dark and we walked to our hotel to keep luggage. Later we came out to walk around the city to see the Christmas lights and it has been one quiet Christmas eve with very few people on the street!
Night at Malmö was nondescript. We ate a falafel dinner in a middle eastern cafe. The room heater did not work and I woke up a cold. Best Western Noble house offers a good spread of breakfast. Filling our bellies for an unknown day, we decided to visit the city in the soft morning light of Christmas. We heard the Christmas Carroll played in Svenska Kyrkan. Going on, saw the world maritime university, Clarion hotel and Malmö university.
We walked till the beach to see the Oresundsbron. It was pretty long stretch and we got the view of Turning torso, the neo-futurist residential skyscraper in Sweden and the tallest building in Scandinavia. Located in Malmö on the Swedish side of the Öresund strait, it was built and is owned by Swedish cooperative association HSB. It is regarded as the first twisted skyscraper in the world.
Later, we walked around the old town of Malmö, before getting our backpacks from the hotel to continue our Nordic trip to Copenhagen. The flixbus from Malmo central station cost 5 EUR for half an hour bus journey to Copenhagen over the beautiful Oresundsbron.
