We visited Nyhavn, the 17th-century waterfront, canal and entertainment district in Copenhagen, Denmark on the Christmas day. It is the home for brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants. The canal harbours many historical wooden ships. It is most probably the most visited neighbourhood in Copenhagen. It was too cold and after few quick snaps, we went to Barock, a cafe. Food was disappointing because of quantity and quality, but the hot chocolate was perfect saviour from the windy chilly weather. There was a Christmas market with many souvenirs and Christmas special Glogg 🙂

My son is visiting Copenhagen for his first trip ever alone with his girlfriend in a couple of weeks … Nyhavn looks lovely and I’m forwarding your post to him. Any other good ideas to visit for a couple of 18-year-olds on a ‘tight’ budget?

Yup, First of all, they can stay in hostels, hotels are little costly in Copenhagen. Also, day pass is practically not needed because many attractions are in walking distance if they stay in city Center. There is a city backpackers hostel near central railway station, but I do not know how it is, pls check the review before staying.
Now, Nyhavn is free, so is the little mermaid statue. The Christianborg castle tower is free and it gives a panoramic city view, but when we went it was closed(will be closed till 8th Jan)
The Rosenborg castle garden is very beautiful, the castle has a fee. Many museums would hv free entry for 18-yrs olds. You need to visit this website to get all information about travelling here: http://www.visitcopenhagen.com

Ah. Your photos made me nostalgic. Wish I was there. The trouble with winter there is the daylight hours are too short.

yes, very short. It is around 4 pm but see already getting dark in there.
